What R 2.1 means in practice

• R-value measures how well a pad stops the ground pulling heat out of you. R 2.1 covers spring through autumn; winter ground needs roughly R 4 and up.
• 3.5 cm thick, which is enough to keep hips and shoulders off hard ground for most side sleepers.
• Self-inflating: open the valve and the foam draws air in on its own, then you top it off with a few breaths.
